Welcome to Herndon!
Herndon is located in the state of
Virginia
and is set among a landscape of high rise buildings and industrial
complexes while still retaining its small town charm with well-kept
neighborhoods, parks and gardens. The town was named after Commander
William Lewis Herndon, an American naval explorer. The area was once
home to a railroad but it has now been converted to a hiking and biking
trail known as
The Washington and Old Dominion Trail (W&OD).
Herndon is home to many parks that are ideal for playing a variety of
sports or enjoying the afternoon with a family picnic. For those
wanting to learn more about the town's history, the
Herndon Depot Museum showcases railroad memorabilia and artifacts from local residents. Annual events in the area include the spring time
Herndon Festival, offering a whole lot of fun for the whole family, while
Friday Night Live! celebrates summer with a series of outdoor concerts. A popular nearby attraction is the
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. The museum displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts.
