The Pentagon is the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense. Built during the early years of WWII, it is one of the largest office buildings in the world. Originally it was built as a temporary solution to a shortage of office space. The entire complex stretches over 583 acres, employs around 23,000 people and cost $83 million to build. Free 90-minute tours are given daily and group tours are available upon reservation.
