More than four million people come to visit the Arlington Cemetery annually, many coming to pay final repects at graveside services, of which almost 100 are performed every week. Most visitors come however to see the graves of some of America's most revered heroes and celebrities including, JFK, Robert Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Audie Murphy and Joe Louis. The Pentagon is the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense. Built during the early years of WWII, it is one of the largest office buildings in the world. Originally it was built as a temporary solution to a shortage of office space. The entire complex stretches over 583 acres, employs around 23,000 people and cost $83 million to build. Free 90-minute tours are given daily and group tours are available upon reservation.

The Tomb of the Unknowns
One of Arlington's most popular tourist sites, The Tomb of the Unknowns contains the remains of unknown American soldiers from World Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict and (until 1998) the Vietnam War. The Tomb is guarded 24-hours per day and 365 days a year by specially trained members of the 3rd United States Infantry.
